Kate Histon is an experienced adjudicator known for her insightful and considered feedback, supporting dancers across all genres of dance.

Having judged in Europe, the UK, South Africa, and Australia, she brings a global perspective and considered approach to every event. Kate is skilled in both solo and panel adjudication and works confidently across voice critique and scribe systems, delivering feedback that is clear, encouraging, and developmentally focused.
Kate is known for her ability to balance high standards with thoughtful communication, supporting dancers to understand their training, refine their artistry, and engage with the process of growth in a meaningful way. Her approach reflects a strong commitment to fostering intrinsic motivation, self-awareness, and a sustained connection to the art form.
Kate’s dance journey began at the Tessa Maunder Ballet School in Newcastle and continued through full-time training at the Marie Walton Academy of Dance, now the National College of Dance. As a teenager, she performed as an extra in Swan Lake with The Australian Ballet Company and later held a two-year contract as a jazz dancer with The World’s Biggest Disco, alongside appearances in television commercials and film projects for dance, acting, and modelling.
She achieved her teaching qualification through the Royal Academy of Dance, graduating with Distinction and went on to found Dance Dynamics in Byron Bay, which became the largest school in the Northern Rivers region. Over her 23 years as studio director, Kate mentored many students who have gone on to successful professional careers in performance and education.
Kate’s work is informed by both her professional experience and her ongoing study in human behaviour, performance psychology, and mind-body practices. She integrates principles of emotional regulation, mindset, and leadership into her adjudication and mentoring, supporting dancers to navigate both performance and training environments with greater clarity and stability.
In addition to adjudicating, Kate has taught internationally, developed educational programs, and facilitated leadership training for artists and creative professionals across Australia and New Zealand. Her earlier work has been featured in Dance Life Australia, and her article on Communication Excellence was incorporated into the curriculum at Bristol College, Massachusetts, USA. She is also the host of Dance Real Podcast. where she explores the evolving culture of the dance industry through informed, reflective conversation.
